For anyone who doesn’t know who we are and what we do, let us introduce you. The Vinyl Studio is a screen printing and design house with a boutique store front located in the heart of Valley Junction. Today, we wanted to give you some insight on what owning a small business looks like.

I sat down with owner and creative director of The Vinyl Studio, Laura Biggins to hear how she got started and what tips she has for others who want to own their own business.

Q: What made you want to start your own business?

Laura: Fortunately for me the business kinda just fell into my lap. My dad was also an entrepreneur and really drove that type of thinking into me!

Q: Why did you decide to buy TVS?

Laura: I started selling some t-shirts on the side for the lake that my mom lives on and started having some success. At the time, my husband and I were also trying to diversify ourselves and our businesses so screen printing sort of just made sense. I already owned By Invitation Only and thought TVS would be a good complimentary business. With TVS, There was also the fashion element since it had a boutique so this meant we could screen print for others as well as ourselves!

Q: What is your favorite part of owning your own business?

Laura: Definitely the people that I get to work with everyday, because I love this team! I also like working with other creatives and getting to connect with lots of different people and companies.

Q: What is your favorite part about owning a screen printing business?

Laura: I think the creativity aspect. I really enjoy getting to be there for the entire process. We get to be there from the start to the finish. It’s also really great to see people happy in our designs and posting the different pieces we’ve created for them!

Q: What is one tip of advice you could offer those who want to start their own business?

Laura: Be ok with failing. That’s where you learn.
